Inspiring Young Person Award

 This award is aimed at educational institutions, whether small or large, that have made significant and positive impacts on the LGBTQ+ community. We honour schools, colleges, and universities that have fostered inclusive environments, implemented supportive policies, and championed educational programs that celebrate diversity and equality. Nominees should demonstrate a commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and empowering space for all LGBTQ+ students and staff.

 This award celebrates a young individual (18 and under) who has gone above and beyond in their support for the LGBTQ+ community. We are looking for a young person who has shown exceptional courage, leadership, and dedication in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, providing peer support, or organising initiatives that promote inclusivity and acceptance. Their actions should inspire others and create a positive change within the community.

 This award recognises a business that is proudly out and supportive of the LGBTQ+ community. We seek to honour a company that actively promotes LGBTQ+ inclusivity through its policies, practices, and culture. Nominees should demonstrate a commitment to equality, whether through hiring practices, customer service, community engagement, or public advocacy. This business stands as a beacon of support and a role model for others.

 This award is for an individual, young or old, who brings the community together and positively impacts the LGBTQ+ community. We honour a person who has shown outstanding dedication to fostering unity, providing support, and advocating for the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals. Their efforts should create a stronger, more inclusive community and inspire others to contribute positively.

 This award recognises an individual, group, or organisation that has made a significant effort to promote inclusion within the LGBTQ+ community. We are looking for those who have implemented innovative programs, policies, or initiatives that ensure everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, feels valued and included. This award highlights the importance of creating spaces where diversity is celebrated, and equality is a reality.

 This award honours an exceptional entertainer who supports the LGBTQ+ community through their work. We celebrate artists, performers, and entertainers who use their platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, visibility, and acceptance. Whether through music, theatre, comedy, or any other form of entertainment, nominees should demonstrate a commitment to making a positive impact and inspiring change within the community. 

Short Story Competition

Unleash your creativity!

Theme: Queerness / Self expression / Identity


Word limit: 750 words


Entry: Open to Moray residents only, no age restrictions.


Results: The winner was announced at our awards ceremony on 17th November at Elgin Town Hall, with the story being read out at the awards ceremony.


This competition was planned in collaboration with our Youth Sub Committee, giving the young LGBTQ+ people of Moray a voice and opportunities.

Terms & Conditions

Relevant period

Nominees should have been showing their support and/or bravery between the years of 2023 to 2024.

Nomination deadline

The deadline to submit nominations was the 1st November 2024. 

Nomination frequency limit

Any individual can nominate the same person/organisation for each category a total of ONE time. For example, "Nominator 1" may nominate "Nominee 1" for 3 of the awards categories, but cannot nominate "Nominee" 1 for the same category 3 times. "Nominator 1" and "Nominator 2" can nominate "Nominee 1" for the same category once each.

Nomination restrictions

There are no age restrictions for nominees or nominators. There is no word count limit for accompanying reasoning information.

How to make a nomination

NOMINATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED. Nominations could be made online or in-person using one of our nomination boxes at Libraries/Community Centres across Moray or at UHI Moray.

Judging criteria

The winner of each award category will NOT be decided on by the total number of nominations received. All nominees will be viewed by our judging panel, and winners will be chosen by carefully considering the accompanied reasoning information provided. The judges will shortlist finalists from each award category and the finalists will be publicly announced on our website and social media channels. Award winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at Elgin Town Hall.
